A large number of various events will take place in Riga and elsewhere in Latvia on November 11 to mark the 93rd anniversary of War Heroes Remembrance Day, also known as Lacplesis Day.

Latvia marks Lacplesis Day in memory of the fight for freedom from 1918 to 1920. On November 11, 1919, the rag-tag Latvian Army and Riga residents defeated the 50,000-strong West Russian Volunteer Army led by Russian Colonel Pavel Bermont and German General Rudiger von der Goltz.
