Grand opening for Mark Rothko Art Center in Daugavpils on April 24

The Mark Rothko Art Center will hold its ceremonial opening at the former Arsenal Building at the Daugavpils Fortress in Daugavpils (southeastern Latvia), LETA was informed by the art center's marketing specialist, Inga Goldberga.

Attending the opening will be top state officials, the children of Mark Rothko (Kate Rothko Prizel and Christopher Rothko) as well as art experts from around the world.

Various events will take place throughout the day. At 8:30 p.m., a concert of accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen (Finland) will be held outside in the forecourt.

The art center will open its doors to the public on April 25 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Mark Rothko Art Center will be the only one place in Eastern Europe where it will be possible to see the original works of the preeminent artist of the XX century, a founder of Abstract Expressionism.
