Brit pop star James Blunt is set to play Riga September 30 where he will be the very first act to open the new downtown concert hall, named after its former “tenant” – the legendary movie theater “Palladium”.

Once Latvia’s biggest and most modern movie theater, “Palladium” shut down in the early 1990s. The new concert venue will retain the premises’ oval form, and there will be balconies on two levels. Only 1,600 tickets will be available for the Blunt concert.

“We are very honored to be able to produce the first concert in this legendary building, and what’s more, doubly pleased that we can offer fans such a high-caliber star as James Blunt,” concert agency “Positivus Music” chief Ģirts Majors declared. “We have planned here on a daily basis mainly new groups, and we are convinced that this unique space and atmosphere will provide fans with a whole new concert experience.”

Last fall, Blunt released his latest studio recording “Some Kind of Trouble”.  This fall, he will tour Eastern Europe, appearing mostly in arenas. Therefore, his “Palladium” gig can be considered an exclusive and special event.

Blunt conquered the world in 2005 with his ballads “You’re Beautiful” and “Goodbye My Lover”.

The next big act lined up will be the up and coming and highly talented Brit songstress Anna Calvi. Accompanying herself on guitar, singing her own material, she is enchanting. Don’t miss her October 15 at the new “Palladium” (Rīgā, Marijas ielā 21. Entrance from Pērses iela).
