''Saxophonia'' music festival kicks off in Riga

The 9th saxophone music festival "Saxophonia" will kick off at Riga’s Saint John’s Church, which is one of the biggest such festivals in the Baltics and Eastern Europe.

The 9th saxophone music festival "Saxophonia" will kick off at Riga’s Saint John’s Church, which is one of the biggest such festivals in the Baltics and Eastern Europe.

Festival goers will have the opportunity to hear foreign and local saxophone stars play various types of jazz, classical, modern and world music styles.

The festival will feature wonderful concerts in various venues throughout Riga, including the Spikeri Concert Hall and the Great Guild Hall.

The festival itself will take place from today to until February 15.

The festival will also organize a competition for local saxophone students, master classes for Latvian Music Academy students, as well as some "Jazz Sessions" – informal jazz night.

The festival will open tonight with a concert at Saint John’s called "Spiritual Music", but its finale on February 15 will feature the Toulouse Symphony Orchestra.
