The annual Schubertiade Chamber Music Concert will once again be held this year at the romantic Ungurmuiza Manor Garden on August 6.

The concert is dedicated to the Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828), and will feature music composed by Schubert and other musicians with similar musical tastes.

Schubertiade is a special musical genre, which was started in the 1820’s when Schubert’s friends called musical nights when the composer himself took the stage to play the piano Schubertiade. These events took place in a Bohemian atmosphere, where friends were able to enjoy music, drink wine and talk amongst themselves. About 50 years after Schubert’s death, Schubertiade became a full-fledged concert genre. Since 1997, Schubertiade concerts have been held in Latvia. Ungurmuiza Manor Garden has hosted Schubertiade the past several years. The tradition in Latvia was established by conductor Andris Veismanis and concert pianists Aldis Liepins, Peteris Plakidis and Valdis Jancis.

Ungurmuiza Manor is located near the historical Latvian city of Cesis. The manor itself was built in 1732 in the baroque style, and is an important cultural heritage site.
