Informational materials about Latvia

In order to travel in and know Latvia better, we offering you the opportunity to download several guides and maps. In these routes, both historical objects and entertainment locations are included. In 2009, State Agency Latvian Tourism Development Agency prepared guides in several different languages (Russian, German, English, Dutch, Swedish, Spanish, French, etc.), which can be downloaded to make travelling in Latvia easier.

The guides “TOP 10 tourism objects of Latvia” (descriptions of the 10 best tourism objects in Latvia and useful information on them), “Tourism map of Riga and its surroundings”, “Tourism map of Kurzeme”, “Tourism map of Vidzeme”, “Tourism map of Latgale”, “Tourism map of Zemgale”, “Tourism map of the Baltics” (tourism objects of the respective regions divided into thematic categories, tourism companies recommended by the regional tourism associations, lists of tourism information centres and useful phone numbers) and “Campsite map of the Baltics” (lists of campsites in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, useful information for tourists arriving by car, as well as the contact information of the tourism information centres and embassies) can be downloaded here.

Guides in the Counties of Latvia

You can chose unusual trips in the forests of Latvia  to let you get acquainted with the values of the untouched nature of Latvia; the routes have been charted and described by writer and publicist Imants and Rimants Ziedonis.

Guides in English

The world-renown publishing house “Lonely Planet” issued a guide in 2009 on the Baltic countries called “Estonia, Latvia & Lithuania”. The guide can be purchased on the Internet here. The issue of the 2007 “Insight Guides” guide of the Baltic countries, titled “Baltic States”, can be purchased here. There is also a map of the routes in the Baltic countries. 

Information on Latvia can be obtained from the guide “The Baltic States”, issued in the 2008 “The Rough Guide”. The popular guide “Dorling Kindersley” also has an issue covering the Baltic States titled “Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania”.

Guides in German and French

There is a 2008 issue of the “Marco Polo” guide available in German, titled “Lettland, Riga” and includes a tourism map of Latvia. One can find several guides of Latvia in German here. The “Petit Fufte” guide titled “Lettonie” was issued in French in 2007.

Guides on Riga

 “Thomas Cook” guides are available in English and Russian; the guides are titled “Latvia” and “Riga” and were issued in 2010. They can be purchased on the Internet here. A Russian language guide titled “Latvia” and issued in 2008 is available from the publishing house “Poliglot”.

Latvian publishing houses have also issued several guides for Latvia and Riga. A few of these include “Survival Latvian” (publishing house “Jumava”), “Another Travel Guide Rīga” (Alternative culture project), “Get acquainted with Riga” (publishing house “Madris”), “Riga Top 10” (“Jumava”), collection of facts about Latvia “What is Latvia?” (“Jumava”); routes for travelling by foot, bicycle and car have been collected in the guide “A Trip Around Latvia” (“Jumava”) and others. All the guides can be purchased in bookshops around Latvia, but the largest choice of guides and maps is at the map shop “Jāņa sēta” in Riga, at Elizabetes Street 83/85.

Electronic maps and GPS navigation maps are also advised to be used when travelling around Latvia because of their reliable and precise information.
