  • Latvian Pavilion at 55th Venice Biennale returns to Riga

    The Riga version of Latvia’s pavilion at the 55th International Venice Biennale will be on show at the “kim?” contemporary art centre from March 27 to April 25. The exhibition encompasses Kaspars Podnieks’ photographs from the series “Rommel’s Dairy” along with the supporting soundtrack and Krišs Salmanis’ installation – a motorized animation of the “moving tree” showcased at the Venice Biennial.
  • Riga Fashion Week once again

    April means Riga Fashion Week ("Rīgas modes nedēļa"), now in its 20th time. This event is a showcase for the 2014/2015 fall/winter collections from the finest Latvian and foreign designers.
    Another "happening” among the many this year, as Riga wears the crown of European Capital of Culture, is the opening of a fifth dimension/5D cinema that offers you the chance to tour the city’s most interesting and beautiful places bird’s eye view.
  • Springtime festivities in the Ethnographic Museum
    In the mode of the ancient Letts, the Ethnographic Open-air Museum this Sunday, March 23, will host an all-day celebration of the arrival of spring featuring rides on the large swings, dyeing eggs in onion skins, horseback riding and husky-pulled sleds, rolling wooden eggs, making birdhouses. For a nutritious pause, at Priede’s Inn, the age-old recipe /combination of barley groats and potatoes/ „bukstiņputra”, can be sampled.

    Riga Dome Cathedral is the venue for a fund-raising concert starring the versatile American musician Peter Broderick, along with the Emīls Dārziņš' Choir and the string quartet from "Sinfonietta Rīga", with the proceeds going to a new stained glass window with the theme "With Fervour For A Free Latvia".

    In "Ave Sol" Concert Hall, Sunday, March 16 at 3 p.m., the annual songfest marking Lent; starring the Riga Russian Orthodox chamber choir "Blagovest" and acclaimed baritone Samsons Izjumovs.
  • Youth choir “Mūza” and bell ensemble “Primus” perform in Riga St. Peter’s Church
    Concert “Quiet Music Session” in Riga St. Peter’s Church is due Wednesday, March 12, at 7 p.m., presenting compositions from the latest album by choir “Mūza” and Latvian composer Sniedze Prauliņa. The album marks a new approach to contemporary choir music where a cappella singing is combined with innovative, acoustic and electro-acoustic solutions.
  • Kokle ensemble performs Bach music in Riga St. Peter’s Church
    Concert “Bach and Kokle” will take place in Riga St. Peter’s Church on Tuesday, March 11, at 7 p.m. The concert presents Johann Sebastian Bach’s unearthly music performed in a slightly different – and very Latvian – manner, by the kokle ensemble “Cantata”.
  • Ukrainian artist Ievgen Petrov’s exhibition “Petrov’s Dogs” at Riga Art Space
    The brilliant Ukrainian contemporary artist Ievgen Petrov’s solo exhibition “Petrov’s Dogs” is on display at the Riga Art Space from March 15. The exhibition presents works that the artist has created specifically for this exhibition as well as works created over the past several years. Most are watercolours, but there also are several sculptures and oil paintings.
  • State Choir "Latvija" to perform at Zirgu Iela Concert Hall
    One of the best Latvian ensembles, the internationally-acclaimed State Choir "Latvija" and conductor Māris Sirmais are inviting the public to the concert "Woman's Word" (Sievietes vārds) at the Zirgu Iela Concert Hall on March 8 at 7 p.m.
