Bērze watermill

Today Bērze watermill is one of the few still working mills in Latvia.

Bērze mill is a significant technical monument. It was built in 1863 and rebuilt several times later. The mill is currently owned by Orvils Heniņš who has been rebuilding and propping weirs for several years already and is engaged not only in grain milling but also in electricity generation in Bērze mill.

The mill is a cultural monument of national importance. Today this mill complex is the only and the oldest working historical monument in Latvia, where visitors can practically see and get acquainted with hundred-old grain processing technologies and traditions by using the water force.

Here grains are milled and grits and pearl barley are produced. Old equipment has still been kept. Old posters remind about the Soviet Period when the mill hosted a carpenter’s shop. A small hydroelectric power station is also working in the mill.
