The museum stores archaeological objects, an ample collection of ethnographic artifacts, documents, photographs, valuable 18th- 19th century books. The art section of the museum displays works by various artists.
Every three months a new exhibition is unveiled in the museum exhibition hall. The autumn exhibitions by Krāslava artists have become a regular tradition. The collection "Krāslava and the Platers" is a concise illustration of Krāslava history. In November 2007 a unique exposition called "Five Oars" was opened (Krāslava coat of arms depicts a boat with five oars), put up in an improvised 17m boat.
