Ventspils Livonian Order Castle
The Livonion Order Castle is the symbol of Ventspils, and is the oldest Medieval castle in Latvia which has retained much of its original appearance.
The Castle of the Livonian Order, which houses Ventspils Museum since September 2001, is the oldest preserved building in Ventspils, built in the second half of the 13th century (first mentioned in 1290).
After its restoration in 2001, the permanent exhibition at the Museum was opened, dedicated to the history of Ventspils and Ventspils Region, the castle and the city’s port.
At the museum:

- image gallery Ghost cellars,
- prison exhibition Prison in the Castle , located in the castle courtyard’s solitary confinement cells (1850).
It is also possible to book educational programs or creative workshops at the museum, which are meant for pupils, as well as for families with children. There are various programs to choose from, like, for example – My Museum My Castle, Medieval Castle, Paper Dolls of Ventspils, etc.
The museum also organizes on a regular basis art and historical exhibitions, as well as concerts and other cultural events.

If booked ahead, it is also possible to try first-hand shooting a cannon, as well as a bow and arrow.
