A Latvian, Russian, and German meet in the performance "Väter". Not like in a funny story, but like in a sensitive tale about fathers and sons, where actors play their memories.

Three men tell about themselves and their fathers, revealing the comparable and incomparable. They remember as sons, but tell as actors, thus drawing a link between theatre and instinct, art and life, simulation and contradiction. In this collage of theatre and life three outstanding characters reveal how they have become who they are.

The play "Späte Nachbarn", which is based on the literature of Isaac Bashevis Singer, is the first work by the Latvian director Alvis Hermanis related to this outstanding Jewish writer, winner of Nobel Prize in 1978.

Just like numerous Jewish intellectuals, also Singer had to leave the Old World during the war to go to the United States of America. The road to the New World and life there is often also reflected in Singer's stories, and also “Späte Nachbarn” tells about that.
