Ērgļi parish is located in NW region of Madona District. Its neighbouring parishes are Mazozoli parish of Ogre district, Kaive parish of Cēsis district and Jumurda, Sausnēja and Vestiena parishes of Madona district. The territory of the parish covers 13’138.5 ha, i.e., 36% of it is land used for agriculture (consisting of 55% of arable land, 11% of meadows and 34% of pastures), 52% - forests, 1% - marsh, 2% - land covered with roads, 2% - land under waters, 2% - courtyards, 5% - other land.

The secret of the vital capacity of Ērgļi Municipality is the combination of unique and beautiful natural landscapes and wonderful people. In the municipality’s hills and valleys we are addressed by the great spirits from past which have left us with rich cultural historic heritage and a special energetic field, which does not allow us to lapse in self-contentment and modesty.

The highest hillocks are Ūsiņa Hill (259 m above sea level) located in Kārzdaba vicinity rich with hillocks, Stradu Hill, Austra Hill, etc. Kuja River meanders from northeast to southeast (77 km).

Sūla River winds through the town centre. Tirza River flows north of the territory by the border of Gulbene District. Little Virāne (Mazais Virānes) Lake is at the border of Tirza Parish. Other largest lakes: Kārzdabas, Kaulačezers, Lūšu, Lielezers, Mucenieku. Marshes: Čonku Marsh, Velna Marsh, Sakņupītes Marsh. Approximately 43% of the territory (7’934 ha) is covered with forests. Protected nature objects: Cesvaine and grašu parks, Vaļģu velnakmens (devil’s stone), Spruktu Oak, Ozolkalna Oak, etc.

It is planned that Ieriķi Tourism Service Centre will be the starting-point for many trips within Vidzeme for travellers arriving from Riga, travelling to Riga and, respectively, to other municipalities in Latvia.

In addition, this year it is planned to commence the establishment of municipality’s nature pathways with offering to become familiar with Amata Municipality by walking shorter or longer pedestrian routes. The region boasts with the beautiful landscapes of Amata River turns, forest path networks now offered for more extensive groups of travellers, and path routes established by many municipality tourism entrepreneurs; therefore it is planned to join forces and make the Amata Municipality nature pathway network, which is from 1 to 70 km large, available to travellers.

The Information Centre offers free materials about Amata Municipality and Vidzeme, places to stay and local entrepreneurs, and the Amata Municipality newspaper. Maps in different languages are also available. The employees are fluent in Latvian and English, and they also speak Russian and German.  

Getting a hot beverage from a coffee machine is also possible. The nearby café Melderupīte offers meals for travellers. In this location the total of 6 services is available – Information Centre, café, path of Ieriķi Mill, gardening services, a gas filling station with a store, and a car repair shop.
