Western Latvia (Kurzeme)

To the West of Latvia lies Sweden. You can swim to Gotland from the wide white sandy beaches of the entire coastline of Latvia, but before you do, do some exploring first. By bike is good, because that will give you the best view and the best chance to meet the proud and brave folk who live among the gentle waves of hills that cradle charming compact towns.

  • Western Latvia (Kurzeme)
  • Bird's view of Kuldīga
  • Cinema City "Cinevilla" near Tukums
  • Pape Nature Park, wild horses
  • Jūrkalne bluff

They built ships for Charles the First of England, fought as partisans for a very long time after the war and there are some colourful women who can scare off any enemy just by singing ! (They did however, just get a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage listing).

The unspoilt and historically authentic landscape has attracted many international filmmakers, so much so, that the “Cineville” film set itself has become a tourist attraction.
