Concert cycle "Music for the Cathedral"
The sound of the organ at Liepāja Holy Trinity Cathedral can neither be described, nor retold. Therefore the people of Liepāja have good reason to be proud of this instrument and encourage their guests to listen to the unique organ. The cathedral is on the map for travellers as well and if there is also a concert there...
Last year Liepāja Holy Trinity Cathedral Renovation Foundation was organizing regular concerts throughout the summer. The appreciation of the audience resulted in the idea about the annual concert cycle “Music for the Cathedral”. Also this year it will be financially supported by Liepāja Culture Department, Culture Capital Foundation and Latvian Radio.
The cycle will not only be a great opportunity to hear the unique sound of the organ, but is also an opportunity for the audience to donate for renovation of both the instrument and the cathedral.
Tourist groups and individual visitors will find it easy to plan their concert visits. This summer, from June 3 till August 26, Latvian organ players will all play at the same time. Hence, the invitation is also short - every Sunday at 18:00, Liepāja Holy Trinity Cathedral!
For thirteen Sundays, 30-minute programs will offer baroque and classical music, performed by Latvian organ players Kristīne ADAMAITE, Līga PŪĶE, Inga SARKANE, Līga AUGUSTE, Jānis PELŠE, Aivars KALĒJS (and soprano Endija RREZGALE), Larisa CARJKOVA, Jevgeņija ĻISICINA, Diāna JAUNZEME, Jolanta BARINSKA, Ilze REINE, Liene Andreta KALNCIEMA, as well as Jūlija BUJANOVAITE from Lithuania and Raphael NIGBUR from Germany.
The Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Liepāja hopes that organ concerts on Sunday evenings throughout the summer will become a tradition in the cultural life of the city.
