During the first three months of this year the number of foreign visitors continued to increase in Latvia

In the first quarter of 2016 the number of foreign visitors served in our state tourist accommodations increased by 2.5%.

According to the newest data of the Central Statistical Bureau the number of nights spent by foreign visitors further increased by 7.6%.

In total in hotels and other tourist accommodations of Latvia during this period of time 366 thousand visitors were served that is by 1.6% more than in the first quarter of 2015.

Almost a half (45%) of served persons more than 240 thousand foreign visitors were from neighbouring countries. In the first quarter of 2016 the number of visitors from several countries of the European Union continued to increase. The largest increase was from Finland (by 28%), the United Kingdom (by 16%), Spain (by 15.2%), Germany (by 11%), Lithuania (by 3.5 %) and Estonia (by 2.3%).

After a long break when the number of visitors from Russia rapidly dropped this year has started with an increase of 3.2%. .

Riga hosted 86% of all foreign visitors, Jurmala - 5.5%, Liepaja-1.2%, Daugavpils and Sigulda region - 0.9%.

In tourist accommodations of Riga 249.4 thousand visitors were served that is by 6.2% more than during relevant period of time in the last year. In Riga the number of foreign visitors increased by 5.5%. In Riga the biggest part of served foreign visitors was from Russia (18.7%), Estonia (10.1%), Lithuania (9.8%), Germany (7.7%), the United Kingdom (7.5%), Finland (6.0%) and Norway (5.4%).
