European Choir Games are coming
This year our capital city will host the 3rd European Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017. Let’s sing together!
The big event of the choir music will take place this summer on July 16 - 23. Approximately 200 choirs from across the world with 12,000 singers will take part in it. The winners of the European champion title and Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017 title will be declared. The choir songs will be heard not only in Riga, but also elsewhere in Latvia, making the nice summer in our country even more nicer.
In the international choir event in concert halls, churches, parks, and squares competitions will take place in 10 various categories of choir singing, as well as master classes presented by distinguished world-class conductors, parade of the nations, concerts of champions and friendship, the great concert of children and youth choirs. Residents and visitors of the capital city will be able to attend free open-air concerts in the beautiful parks of Riga. Concerts in "Arena Riga" promise to be especially grand.
European Choir Games take place once in every two years; the idea and purpose is to promote understanding and peace between the nations, to unite people from all over the world in a friendl competition. The unifying international motto of the event is: "Singing together brings nations together".
How come that Riga has been given the respectable rights to host the 3rd European Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017? The answer is very simple. Latvia has longstanding traditions of choir singing that are still alive and are regularly demonstrated in the Nationwide Latvian Song and Dance Festivals, as well as School Youth Song and Dance Festival.
In 2014, World Choir Games were held in Riga, and organisation and process of it was very successful. The Games were recognised asthe most succesful in the history of the event. There is basis for expectations that also the 3rd European Choir Games and Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017 will become a brilliant page in the culture of the choir singing.
