Latvia shows second best growth in number of foreign tourists
Lagging behind only Iceland, whose growth in foreign tourist numbers this year is at 23.1%, Latvia finds itself in impressive second place with an 18.9% growth.
With nine-month 2014 statistics in at the European Tourism Commission (ETC), placing third with a 16% growth in number of foreign tourists was Greece. The statistics announced are compared to the equivalent period in 2013.
As for the other two Baltic States, Lithuania this year is looking at a 10.2% climb in foreign tourist influx – making it #6 on the list. Estonia in this regard, has earned only a 3.6% growth over last year.
ETC has statistics on 33 countries, and to note – Slovakia is the sole country reporting a decrease in the number of foreign tourists, down 14%.
ETC also reports that the Ukrainian crisis has brought down the number of Russians traveling abroad – 6% less in the second quarter of the year, compared to the first.
