New National Library presents exhibit on 60 years of fashion in Latvia

“Let's Talk About Fashion!”/„Parunāsim par modi!” is the name given the traveling  exhibition opening November 25th in the new Latvian National Library in Riga. This is just one of many special events being organized under the auspices of Latvia's tenure as the European Union's presiding nation in 2015. After Riga, it will be seen in a number of Latvian embassies and community centers abroad.

This exhibit takes a look, or back, at the past 60 years in Latvia, starting with the establishment of the Riga Fashion House (Rīgas Modeļu nams). Five thematic sections will reflect historic reality of specific time periods, for example, OPPOSITION tells of those who defiantly stood up against the prevalent trends in fashion. The final theme: SHOW. FASHION DESIGN TODAY IN LATVIA, speaks for itself. Here the haute couture, apparel, garments and accessories from the top brands in Latvia will be showcased, like: “QooQoo”, “Amoralle”, “Mareunrol’s”, Natālija Jansone, many others.

Informative and presentational materials culled from the National Library's archives serve as the foundation for the exhibit, that can be viewed through December 8th. Admission is free of charge; in English, with Latvian translation available.
