Riga Zoo to be open until 9 p.m. during “Winter Nights”

10.12.2014

The Riga Zoo is just a half-hour drive from downtown. This is a place where one should go to grasp the diversity of nature or to learn more about animals. During the darkest period of the year, this may be the best place to go to escape the bustle and bright display windows of the city, choosing instead a stroll in a peaceful place and get a breath of fresh air, feel the closeness of animals, and enjoy the occasional surprise along the way.

“Winter Nights” at the Riga Zoo will run from December 12 to January 25. During this period, the box office will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., indoor exhibitions will be open until 8 p.m., and visitors will be able to stay on the grounds until 9 p.m.

In the evenings, tickets are just EUR 2 if bought from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

On December 24 and 31, the booking office of the zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and there are no “Winter Nights” at the zoo these two days. Next year, the Riga Zoo opens already on January 1 – including for the “Winter Nights”.

In order to avoid a disappointment, visitors to the Riga Zoo are recommended to dress for the weather.

If travelling from the centre of Riga, tram No. 11 offers the most convenient way to reach the Riga Zoo. To see the route and schedule, visit the website of Rīgas satiksme municipal transport company: http://saraksti.rigassatiksme.lv/index.html#tram/11/a-b/en

There is also bus No. 9 running between the downtown and Mežaparks neighbourhood where the zoo is located. The route and schedule are available at Rīgas satiksme website: http://saraksti.rigassatiksme.lv/index.html#bus/9/a-b/en
