Sounds from long ago courtesy of „Stadt-Hautboisten Riga”

17.12.2014

Reconstruction of the St.Maria Magdalena Church in Old Town is yet another project that continued all year during Riga's reign as “European Capital of Culture”, and Saturday, December 20th at 5 p.m., the church is set to host the woodwind instrument ensemble „Stadt-Hautboisten Riga”.

In a Christmas mood, Baroque music will resound in the form of the Baroque oboe, taille, Baroque bassoon, harpsichord, other instruments. Historically, woodwind ensembles were associated with military parades and light entertainment, as opposed to brass wind ensembles whose forte was church steeple msic. Suffice it to say that there is no similar musical entity in the Baltic region.

Admission free of charge.

Concert organized by the Riga Early Music Centre. For details, go to: http://www.earlymusic.lv/Earlymusic_engl/Welcome.html
