Tour operators find new ideas in Latvia
LIAA organises and supports familiarisation trips for international tour operators to Latvia. Recently, we hosted two groups of tour operators from Lithuania and Estonia. We may be neighbours, but we all still have a lot to learn from each other.
The Lithuanian group was happy to discover the treasures of Gauja National Park and the Vidzeme coast area. Visitor attractions like Birini Castle, Limbazi town, the Tīklu parks adventure park, Valmiermuiža Brewery and Oļegs Auzers Live Silver Museum will be great additions to existing itineraries and inspire new tour programmes to lesser known areas and attractions in Latvia.
The Estonian group explored the region of Kurzeme or West Latvia with stops in Liepaja, along the coast, Edole Castle, the towns of Kuldiga with the widest waterfall in Europe, Sabile with one of the world’s most northermost vineyards, and Pure Chocolate Museum.
Liepaja is now connected to Riga by plane with regular flights by airBaltic, making it an excellent weekend city break destination
Participants in both trips remarked that they were pleasantly surprised at the diversity of Latvia’s visitor attractions, and got many new ideas to start using in their programmes.
12 reps from Russia’s Continent Express visited Riga, Jurmala and Sigulda and were impressed at the wide range of opportunities available to conference, incentive and teambuilding organisers in Latvia.
As one of them remarked: “Have you ever tried dandelion wine? Ever heard of the Turaida Rose? Never visited the Switzerland of Latvia? Pack your suitcases and go on an adventure! In just a few hours you’ll be in a fabulous, colourful and very fun city.”
The programme in Sigulda included visits to Turaida Museum Reserve, Sigulda Castle and crafts workshops, as well as wine tasting at Krimulda Manor. In Riga, the reps tasted contemporary Latvian cuisine, explored the old town, climbed St Peter’s Church and picked up delicious souvenirs at Riga Central Market. Everyone was happy that the journey from the airport to the city centre takes less than 30 minutes! In Moscow, travel times are a lot longer.
Arrangements for the Continent Express familiarisation trip were made by Baltic Travel Group with the support of LIAA.
