The New Castle of Sigulda and the manor center

The exterior of the New Castle of Sigulda built by the Knyaz Kropotkin family in 1878 has retained its neo-Gothic style, meanwhile its interior became a pearl of national romanticism in 1937, when it hosted the Latvian Union of Writers and Journalists. Nowadays, the manor center buildings host workshops and salons of craftsmen and artists, where new skills can be learnt, and souvenirs can be purchased. Since 2016 Sigulda New Castle is under reconstruction.

In the summer of 2018, the first of the renovated buildings of the Sigulda Castle Quarter was opened - the manor barn, where craftsmen and artists' workshops have began their work - everybody at the Textile workshop can try their skills in weaving, in the paper workshop “Viktora vēstules” - try their hand at calligraphy and love letters, create your own whistle-blower - in the ceramics workshop, and enjoy the healthy ice-creams at the Sigulda ice cream factory.

It is also possible to visit walking stick workshop and create your own walking stick, to visit "Ādas artelis" (Leather workshop) as well as "Baltu Rotu" gallery.

In May 2018, the reconstruction of the Sigulda Castle Quarter and territory improvement works were completed, during which the manor's wooden castle, the dwelling house and the farm building or barn were rebuilt - they had not been repaired for decades. During the reconstruction of Sigulda Castle Quarter, the garden of Sigulda castle was also altered, where new walking paths were built, benches and also bicycle stands were placed. The castle garden was renovated according to how the orchard of the manor house looked like at the end of the 19th century - it contains more than 50 ornamental tree and berry seedlings, as well as flowering shrubs, giving the main emphasis to the restored buildings of the manor.
