Slutišķi Old Believers' Village
Slutišķi village is located in the Naujene rural district of the Daugava county situated at the foot of the Markova Castle Mound on the right bank of the Daugava River. In historical records the village of Slutišķi was mentioned already in 1785.
Slutišķi village reflects the traditional construction patterns of peasant housing.
The carcases of all houses are made up of horizontal log rectangles covered with two- or four-gabled roofs.
House decors are similar to the neighbouring Slavs, most obviously manifested in the facades, in the lavishly decorated windows, doors and pediments, which attests to original carpenter-work.
The elaborate window panes and cornices are unique in every house as the craftsmen paid dues to the individuality of each building.
The village accommodates the Slutišķi Old Believers’ House - an open-air ethnographic section of the Naujene Museum of Regional History.
