  2. GOLF TOURISM IN LATVIA

The popularity of golf in Latvia is growing every year, reinforced by the high-quality courses, modern technical equipment and flexible prices offered at Latvian golf clubs, which are frequented by both local golf enthusiasts and foreign guests. Latvian golf tourism is not comparable in scale to, for example, the highly developed destinations in the Nordic countries, but the flexible pricing policy and relative proximity give us advantages among foreign guests

More than 108 million people play golf around the world at traditional 9- and 18-hole courses, as well as simulators and mini courses. Europe alone is home to about 40 million players. No matter where they come from, golfers are always keen to visit other countries to practice their game under more diverse conditions.

Latvian golf infrastructure is compact, transparent and easily accessible for foreign players, who can complete several different courses in just a few days without the need to travel far. This modest but consolidated infrastructure makes Latvia a great destination for a weekend golf trip, especially in the segment that combines trips to Riga and the Baltics.

Read on to learn more about the Latvian golf scene for foreign guests, including brief summaries of Latvian golf clubs and a price comparison between Latvia and the Nordics.

Tee-rific golf opportunities for foreign guests

Latvia is perceived as a new, convenient and high-quality location for golf abroad. The specialised operator Golf Holiday Shop offers both Latvia Golf Holidays and Latvia & Estonia Twin Country Golf Tours, while the Baltic Tours DMC travel agency highlights courses near Riga and their accessibility in its Golf Break offer. As a result, Latvia is part of a condensed Baltic golf region surrounding Riga. The model is advantageous for Latvia as a whole, since visitors gain added value by combining a game of golf with visiting Old Riga, Jūrmala, Sigulda and other nearby tourist destinations at a convenient distance.

Jūrmala Golf Club & Hotel – for beginners, amateurs and professionals

Jurmala Golf Club & Hotel is located in a unique location, surrounded by pine forests and near the Baltic Sea, not far from the international Riga airport and the capital of Latvia. The club is one of the most modern golf complexes in the Baltics, where high-level service is combined with a diverse playing and training environment. The golf course covers 75 hectares with a uniquely located 18-hole Jūrmala course and a 9-hole academy course with a PAR of 3 – an exciting offer for players of any skill level. The club offers beginner courses, a junior academy and individual or group lessons, while the 17-room hotel, a restaurant with an outdoor terrace and event facilities make the venue attractive for corporate events, weddings and team building.

It pays to play in Latvia

The publicly available, premium offer (green fee prices per game) at Jūrmala Golf Club & Hotel for an 18-hole course costs up to 99 euros, while Ozo offers its games for 70–85 euros. An appealing operator in the regional segment is Reinis, where golfers can play 18 holes for only 40–50. For comparison, in Finland, Linna Golf offers a public green fee range of 69–125 euros, and the price of using the Swedish Bro Hof Slott golf course is approximately 163–325 euros. Even the most expensive and highest-quality golf courses in Latvia are priced well below several well-known premium courses in the Nordic countries, a difference that is even more pronounced in the middle segment. This is where Latvia’s golf infrastructure shines – especially for foreign players who want quality at an affordable price.
