Jaunpils Castle was built in 1301 as a fortress of the Livonian Order, surrounded on three sides by a mill pond and originally inhabited by small units of knights. Only in the 17th century was the Knights' Castle adapted to the comfort of the noble family by creating luxurious apartments.
