Winter fun in Latvia

In Latvia, you can enjoy winter in different ways, like going to museums and looking at art, having fun on ski tracks, or going on hikes or walks through Latvia’s towns.

Visit a deer garden

Would you like to meet Bambi in real life? Then visit one of Latvia’s deer gardens. These majestic animals will certainly be a highlight of your day, in summer, or in winter. At the More safari park, you will be able to walk along a 1.5 km route and feed deer.

Then continue your journey in the nearby Sigulda or Cēsis, and enjoy hot drinks at one of the cafes in these towns!

Get an adrenaline boost with Vučko

You can take a ride on the Vučko soft bob at the Sigulda bobsleigh track. But if you’ve already overcome this challenge, and are looking for something a little more extreme, then take a Varde skeleton ride.


Go on a hike

Dress warm, and go to one of Latvia’s 42 nature parks, to enjoy the winter landscapes in all their beauty. For a weekend destination, look up these nature parks in Latvia to experience occasional encounters with wild animals and gorgeous views.

Enjoy Daugavpils

If you’re looking for ways to get warm and explore Latgale, there’s no better way to do it than by going to Daugavpils and visiting Šmakovka Museum! A guided tour through Latgale, including a taste of the unique alcoholic drink made there, is a great way to start discovering the region. After a few nips of šmakovka, you can visit Daugavpils Fortress and look at the paintings of the world-renowned artist, Mark Rothko.

Square in Ventspils
