The First Advent marks the beginning of the Christmas season. On this day, November 30, residents of Jelgava and visitors to the city are traditionally invited to gather at Duke Jacob’s Square to enjoy the joy of being together and to light Jelgava’s holiday symbol – the grand Christmas tree.
The tree-lighting event will begin at 5 PM with a heartfelt and educational theatre performance “How the Elves Prepared Christmas”, after which participants will be invited to light the city’s grand tree together.
An essential part of the celebration will also be the traditional Christmas prelude market, which will welcome visitors from 2 PM to 7 PM. As usual, local producers and craftsmen will offer Christmas trees, candles, Advent wreaths, Christmas decorations, various knitted items, hot drinks, gingerbread, and other treats.
