On the evening of 27 November, Riga Congress Hall will resound with true gems of the symphonic repertoire – works that have stood the test of time and remain audience favourites to this day. Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 1 is one of the most personal works of the Romantic era, intertwining grief and unfulfilled feelings with the composer’s determination to follow his own path. Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, meanwhile, is one of the towering achievements of the symphonic repertoire, where overwhelming power alternates with extraordinary fragility and lyricism, most notably in the legendary Adagietto. The internationally acclaimed Lithuanian conductor Giedrė Šlekytė will make her LNSO debut.
