The collection of the Latvian National Arts Museum stored in Arsenals is made up of works of art created in Latvia and by Latvian–born artists from the late 20th century until the present day.

There is no permanent exhibition in Arsenals, instead, there are regular exhibitions from the museum’s collections, revealing developmental processes of the Latvian visual arts from various viewpoints. The exhibition hall also hosts international artists and diverse art and culture events.

The exhibition hall is housed in a significant architectural monument - an early 19th century customs warehouse or arsenal, representing the late Russian Classicism style. Arsenals building has been used as a warehouse at all times. In the 1980s, it was taken over by the Culture Ministry who handed it over to the art museum. In 1989, Arsenals opened.
