“Sakaru Bunkurs” is a unique museum that gives you a glimpse into the Soviet era. Back in the day, it was a backup command center for the October District and the Civil Defense Headquarters of the Riga Shipyard. It was built to manage Northern District of Riga and handle emergencies like nuclear war or natural disasters.
The bunker had everything needed to function independently: communication systems to stay in touch with other key facilities, its own power and water supply, and safe spaces for those managing crises.
Now, visitors can walk through the original workspaces, see how life and work were organized, and experience the Cold War atmosphere firsthand. It’s like stepping into a time capsule that’s sure to fascinate history lovers and anyone curious about something different.
