On 5–7 June 2026, the 35th Meeting and Business Forum of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will be held in Riga. The meeting is organised by the Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the bank and is attended by business representatives, policymakers, academics and opinion leaders, making Riga a place for international dialogue and cooperation.
Organising the meeting in Riga will provide Latvia with an opportunity to attract new investments and promote the Baltic States as an investment-safe and international investor-friendly region, as well as for Latvian companies to establish new business contacts for project development and implementation.
The theme of the 2026 meeting is “From Volatility to Multilateralism: National Innovation in a Changing World”, emphasising how economies adapt to today’s changing conditions, and promoting innovation, digitalisation and sustainable economic growth. This topic is important for Latvia because the external economic environment, security issues, energy transition and the development of artificial intelligence increasingly affect the competitiveness of companies.
About the EBRD
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was established in 1991 after significant political and economic changes in Europe to support the development of market economies and private entrepreneurship. The bank’s operating model combines financing, advice and policy reform support, helping countries strengthen a competitive private sector, better governance, sustainable development and an investment climate. The EBRD’s role is particularly important for countries and companies that need not only capital, but also the credibility of an international financial institution, project appraisal experience and access to a wider network of investors.
Important forum in Riga
The EBRD Annual Meeting is one of the most important strategic events because it is a forum for discussing developments in the bank’s activities, finances and operations. In addition to the annual meeting of the EBRD Governors, the Riga Forum will feature a business forum programme, investment sessions, thematic discussions, networking events and bilateral meetings. EBRD member states will be represented at the meeting by ministers of economy, finance or development, as well as heads of institutions, while the participation of presidents and prime ministers of the Baltic States and other European Union member states is planned for certain events.
Latvia’s participation in the EBRD
The EBRD meeting in Riga is a tool for Latvia’s economic diplomacy. It allows investors, as well as public sector and business decision-makers, to gather in Riga, showcase the Baltic region’s investment offer and turn international visibility into concrete cooperation contacts. The practical return will depend on how effectively Latvian companies and institutions take advantage of the meetings, partnerships and investor attention furnished by the event.
