The Pedvale Art Park, located on the left bank of the Abava River Valley in Sabile, near the Firkspedvale and Brinkpedvale manors, is a cultural landmark of national importance, which offers visitors over 150 works of art out in the open.

Museum exposition

The museum’s permanent collection is made up of works of art from various artists, which were mostly created during various symposiums, plein-airs or workshops, as well as works from the museum’s founder – sculptor Ojars Freibergs. The museum also features exhibitions from Latvian and foreign artists, which change on a regular basis. Artists, which participate in the museum’s creative projects, are always urged to gain inspiration from the museum’s beautiful surroundings and utilize its natural resources.

Observe and participate!

The museum’s concept is the fusion of the natural landscape, cultural heritage and art into a unified environment. The aim is to create a place where creative thinking can mesh with the surrounding landscape, and as a result become a part of the environment. Every year, a theme is chosen for the museum’s creative work. Everyone is invited to visit and participate in the Pedvale Open-Air Art Museum’s processes.

Take your time and relax!

Artists and visitors are welcomed in a simple country-style environment, which also includes a small guest house, restaurant, conference hall and picnic areas.

Culture and scenery

The Pedvale Open-Air Art Museum is a part of the protected cultural heritage and nature territory "Abavas senleja". Its 100 hectares are covered with tilled fields, blooming meadows, gentle slopes and deep ravines, rolling hills, a winding river, forests with birds and wildlife. It is an ideal place in which creative professionals, — sculptors, painters, printmakers, installation and performance artists — are free to express themselves using the park’s territory for concerts, performances and other displays of art.

The museum has also been granted a UNESCO award for preservation and development of the cultural landscape. In 1996 and 1998 the World Cultural Heritage Foundation included the Abava Valley together with the Pedvale Open-Air Art Museum complex in the List of 100 Most Endangered Culture Monuments of the World.
