On Saturday, May 27, the traditional "Rūjiena Ice Cream Festival" will be held in Rūjiena for the seventh time.
The beginnings of the festival can be traced back to 2001, when the city municipality, in cooperation with the Rūjiena Dairy Association, organized the first Latvian ice cream festival with the motto "Rūjiena - the capital of ice cream".
Together with the celebration of the city holiday, Rūjiena is one of the few cities that celebrates its name day on May 29. Until 2016, the name day celebrations of the city of Rūjiena were celebrated on this date every year. The following year, the company "Rūjienas ice cream" joined the group of supporters of the festival, and since then, the "Rūjienas ice cream festival" is celebrated on the Saturday closest to the city's name day, while also celebrating the city's name day.
